| | Homoeopathic medicines have
not been tested on animals but rather on healthy human
volunteers of both sexes. The doses were increased, though
not beyond toxic levels. Data relating to the reactions to
the tested medicines were recorded in minute detail. This
information, together with existing knowledge of the toxic
symptoms of various substances, were combined to make up
the homoeopathic pharmacopeia, which is known as the
Materia Medica, and to which all classical homoeopaths
              refer.
